Learn more about the program

Care Cash® is designed to inform you about quality care options that may be lower cost and help pay toward certain eligible network expenses like copays or a deductible. We heard from our members that out-of-pocket costs can deter when and where they get care, and we want to make this easier and more affordable. So, we created Care Cash, our way of providing you with money upfront to help cover the costs of certain medical expenses with our network providers, facilities and physicians.

UnitedHealth Premium® Care Providers

The UnitedHealth Premium program can help you find providers who meet criteria for safe, timely, effective, and efficient quality care. When searching for a primary care provider or specialist on myuhc.com®, look for the two blue hearts near the provider’s name.

Primary Care

A primary care provider (PCP) is the doctor who may know you best - they’re the first person you may call with medical questions and issues. PCPs help guide you to the care you need - from physical to behavioral health - and may help avoid cost surprises, save time and make the best use of your health care. All network primary care providers are eligible for Care Cash.

Specialty Care

A specialist provider focuses on a specific area of complex care – from cardiology to orthopedics.

Urgent care

Urgent care clinics offer treatment for non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses, like sprains and minor burns. They can even help with a broken bone. These clinics are staffed by physicians and care teams. For quick care needs, convenience care clinics may be a good option (and they often have walk-in availability). Please edit the search criteria to fit your personal details.

24/7 Virtual Visits

When you need care – anytime, day or night – 24/7 Virtual Visits may be a convenient option. From treating flu and fevers to caring for migraines and allergies, you can chat with a doctor by phone or video through your mobile phone, tablet or computer.***

How it works

The Care Cash card is a preloaded debit card to help you and your dependents pay for certain out-of-pocket medical costs. Once your card arrives in the mail, you can activate the care and immediately begin to use Care Cash for eligible network expenses. Care Cash can be used when the provider requests payment at point of service and/or when an invoice is billed by the provider. If the full amount of the Care Cash card is not used within the benefit period, the remaining card balance can roll over for eligible employees. Program benefit maximum $2,000.

We want Care Cash to be a positive experience when you use it, so there are no fees, penalties or income restrictions associated with the debit card. Your health coverage premium is not impacted by enrolling or using the Care Cash card.

Where you can use it

The key to using Care Cash is to make sure the card is accepted. You will need to confirm the care is a program eligible expense prior to visiting a provider or facility. It’s important to know you have options, including premium care providers, network primary care and outpatient behavioral health providers, 24/7 Virtual Visits and network urgent care facilities. Call the number on your health plan ID card for more information.
